You cannot have 50 or 100 peoples working on a game that big and sell game to 1000 ravinhoods. Or 10000 which is same - for their size, nothing. If they didn't they would have 1000 sales. Of course that CA had to make compromises. There are many other examples of selling out and that in a very ugly way and certanly you have choosen the wrong one.

We all need to say - YUCK, IT'S MAINSTREAM. Now you use that word MAINSTREAM and we should all bow to your WISDOM because it has ugly, negative sound to it. We may say that maybe this is old school gaming where game needs to be hard (I am playing games like you, since C-64 so I know games). In ToW game is hard even on easy difficulty. I love Theatre of War but Russians still has lot's to learn from western game developers. Mind you - any game succeed in it's design if it offer great fun to the player, not some frustrating gameplay. MTW 2 is mainstream game but one with big artistic touch. I am 35 and certanly any kid 20 years old will beat me in any RTS game. RTS games are more like tournament games - they are for kids that have good reflexes etc. I cannot say that I hate RTS games but certanly I am not in love with them. That is Starcraft and upcoming Starcraft 2 which I will not buy. Would be different if I were the only one that thought this, but, there are many who find it just a romper room toy now. There was a time even I had great respect for Creative Assemblies work, but, not anymore not since they sold out to mainstream clickfest gamers and no strategy or challenge is left in the series. Gerber Baby Food is the leading baby food in America, but, most babies don't like the taste of many of the products.

In fact Creative Assembly is one of best game developers right now for PC They are not breaking into new market or accessing to other groups of players as revolutionary design does. So they are destined to have low sales as only fans will get their games. But, I guess that sales are low so wargame designer try to milk existing engines to get at least something for their work. We need new, creative, original wargame design. In MMORPG there would be some good games as I am waiting for Jon Van Caneghem game, see this website: (I am big fan of Heroes games so I am watching this). I agree with you about originality and simply wargames suffer very much from this. Histwar - Les Grognards will be more like Combat Mission - Napoleonic, too bad, without production, recruitment, research, diplomacy or grand strategy (I guess because I am only vaguely following development there). Don't know what 1C will do with their XIII century game etc. Although maybe some are in development because game developers are also like sharks - when they smell money they will do games like this (as in any other business). I don't know if there is no alternative but on this scale and commitment to the project, no.

AGEOD has a game in development but it's still far away. I bet 20 bucks there wont be any attempts at British Empire either. Look at all the threads created here requesting this specific theme.

There isn't a decent alternative to MTW2(excluding CK). MTW2 still costs more than 20 bucks so nice try. Instead of trying something new and original. Most wargameĭesigners today are uncreative today(except Norm Koger of course). Beacause noone else will do a game about this.įor all the "bashing".
